Have you been inspired to get baking, after watching BBC2’s Great British Bake Off? Well now there’s the chance to enter your best culinary creation into an Islandwide baking competition and win yourself some professional quality Pampered Chef cookware… and it’s all in aid of Cancer Research.

The Great Island Bake-Off

The Great Island Bake-Off will be held on Sunday 24th October, 2-4 pm, at Nodehill Middle School on Upper St James’ Street, Newport.

It costs only £2.50 to enter (£1 for children) and there are two main categories: savoury or sweet. Prizes will be some fabulous bakeware from The Pampered Chef. There will also be a special children’s prize for those under ten. Entries will be judged by none other than what the competition organisers have rather flatteringly described as “the legendary Matt and Cat“. Yes, friends, no need to imagine it any longer: this is an unprecedented opportunity to quit your keyboards for one afternoon, come along and watch Matt eat cakes in person. Cat, under the guise of inspecting the presentation of the cakes, will no doubt delicately nibble a few too.

The Pampered Chef have supported Cancer Research every October for the past four years, raising over £850,000. They do this through fund-raising cooking shows and by selling exclusive pink products, with a pound from each sale going to the charity. This year, they have said they hope to top the one million pound mark.

Event details
All entrants need to register their interest by Thursday 21st October and must bring their baking entry along to Nodehill Middle School at one o’clock on the 24th October. In certain circumstances, it may be possible to submit it the day before.

Do please come along and support the event, even if you’re not entering the competition yourself. There will be a raffle of over one hundred pounds-worth of Pampered Chef cookware to be won, with all proceeds going to Cancer Research. Tea and cakes (obviously) will be available to buy and there will also be pink products and the Pampered Chef range available, with 25% of sales being donated to Cancer Research too. All profits from entrance fees and refreshment sales will additionally be donated specifically for research into breast cancer.
